about

Asumaya is the brainchild of Madison WI drummer and multi-instrumentalist, Luke Bassuener, who layers bass, voice, mbira, percussion and field recordings into intricate compositions of counterpoint and polyrhythm. Drawing inspiration from his time as a Peace Corps volunteer in Ghana, and from his other lives as a public elementary school art teacher and a part-time post-punk-dub-jazz drummer, Bassuener's songs sound like a warped world music from a place that might not exist.

The Euphemist explores the ways we seek to define and redefine the world around us - from political doublespeak and disingenuous marketing to the courage to embrace optimism in the face of adversity and despair.
